FOR YOUR CONSIDERATION:
Sometimes you try to sit down and create something, weather that be a story, a piece of art, or maybe a poem. However, there are those times when you can’t seem to find any inspiration, or you’re stuck on a problem with your creation, maybe you feel lethargic, or you get distracted easily (a large part of why I don’t get things done).
So how are you supposed to get around these obstacles? Well, there are no guaranteed solutions, really. Fortunately, there are several things you can try that might help:
1.Go outside.
What better way to get inspiration than being right in the middle of God’s creation? Just be aware of any health hazards before you go outside, tornadoes, blizzards etc.
2.Write out your problem.
I’m testing to see how this one works for me. Maybe its just the process of releasing some pent up problem you have that helps, or just the act of writing, but it can’t hurt to try. It might help, or it might not.
3.Exercise.
A good way to get your brain working is do some aerobic or cardio exercises. Things like fencing, running, push-ups, lifting weights, skiing, and more can help pump the blood to where it needs to go.
4.Go to another source.
Another way to be inspired is by reading or watching another story. Other, more experienced writers have gone through the exact same things you have, but they still created some extremely interesting works. Just be sure your creations aren’t knock-offs of their works.
5.Hang out with friends.
Hanging around other people can give you insight into how some people act. This allows you to create characters who are relatable, and convincing. Also, talking to other people gives you the chance to ask them for helpful ideas. This one may be the worst way to become inspired, or it might be the best. Either way, you’ll probably have some fun.
6.Get some sleep.
This is another method that can be rather useless for writers, or rather useful. Sometimes its good to just give your brain a rest. Sleep allows you to dream, and who knows what inspiration can come from dreams? Vegging out on the couch doesn’t usually work as well as sleeping if you’re trying to be creative.
7.Asking God for help.
Could anyone have more limitless creativity than the creator of everything? Asking God to give you inspiration is the best thing you can possibly do when writing. Even thinking about Him is inspiring.
Well there you are: seven methods that might help beat a creative dry-spell or writer’s block or whatever problem you face. Just so you know these ideas aren’t all mine. If you want more researched methods for beating writer’s block you can google it. (difficult to do, but worth it.)
